We raise a lot of birds. These are called Kosher Kings. They are a dark feathered bird that I think does a little better in non-climate controlled rearing conditions. The white ones, affectionately known as Jumbo Dumbos, tend to have a few more problems.
At the moment, we have a lot of milk. And I would prefer to sell the milk to people than give it chickens, but it all works out in the end.
The chicks are 2-1/2 weeks old and going through about a gallon and a half of cultured skim milk a day. They are growing fast and are getting the boot from the brooder today. They are headed out into the field houses where they can scratch and roam in relative safety. Because everything loves chicken.
In 6 more weeks the chicks should be ready to go. Raised on organic cultured milk, grain, grass and bugs. Really good stuff. Send me an email if you want to buy some for the freezer.
