New shows coming up: Cantrip, Matthew Byrne, Pete’s Posse and more!

We’ve been growing lots of music on the farm these days, and the McClary Hill Farm concert series is going and growing strong. Some great shows coming up:

Cantrip, Saturday, April 15

Cantrip will be with us on April 15. Chase away the tax day blues with some rollicking tunes. Dan Houghton plays pipes, whistles, flute, bouzouki, mandolin, guitar, Jon
Bews plays that gorgeous green fiddle like he was sent with it straight from heaven, and
Eric McDonald rounds it all out on guitar, mandolin and bouzouki.

“Their music comes from wild landscapes & wild places of the spirit.” – The Orcadian

$15. RSVP to Mcclaryhillfarmconcerts@gmail.com. Showtime 7:30.

Sunday, May 7: Matthew Byrne

We are totally thrilled that Matthew Byrne will be stopping in at the farm again on his latest trip down from Newfoundland . He’s been called “Possibly the finest interpreter of traditional songs in the country,” and we agree. Maybe in two countries. His album Hearts & Heroes won “Traditional Album of the Year” at the 2015 Canadian Folk Music Awards. And guess what? You can bring yourself home a signed copy from the show at the farm. RSVP to Mcclaryhillfarmconcerts@gmail.com, as always. $15. Showtime 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 13: Pete’s Posse

Right on Matthew’s heels will be Pete’s Posse making the trip over the river from Vermont on May 13. These guys call themselves “three generations of musicians who have come together to create their own electrifying sound they call ‘multi-generational roots music.'”

Pete’s Posse is anchored by the legendary Pete Sutherland (fiddle, piano, banjo, melodica and vocals) with Oliver Scanlon (fiddle, viola, mandolin, foot percussion and vocals) and Tristan Henderson (guitars, mandolin, jaw harp, foot percussion and vocals).  RSVP to Mcclaryhillfarmconcerts@gmail.com. Showtime 7:30, $15 at the door.

Plus: Ari and Mia Friedman, Tim Connell mandolin show and workshops, Rhythm Future Quartet

One June 24, Ari and Mia Friedman will be in town bringing us soaring musicianship and sister-harmonies. Then in October, we’ve got a very special show of Brazilian choro music with Tim Connell accompanied by the extraordinary Ceasar Gabarini. We’re doing our first-ever afternoon workshops to accompany this special show. Stay tuned for details. And, the long-awaited (and rescheduled from Super Bowl Sunday) Rhythm Future Quartet will be bringing us some fiery and gorgeous gypsy jazz on November 2.

And we’re still booking for this year so…stay tuned!
